AfD candidate elected speaker of Saxony-Anhalt parliament
Tobias Rausch became the first AfD speaker of a German state parliament, BBC News reports. He won the Saxony-Anhalt vote with support from nine lawmakers outside his party; four of those voters remain unidentified. The largely symbolic office includes chairing debates, while the AfD’s bid to lead the state government remains unresolved.
