Alaska permafrost soils warm fastest in 27-year study

via Phys.org·10h ago

A study of 43 Alaska weather stations found soil temperatures rose fastest in continuous-permafrost regions from 1997 to 2023, Phys.org reports. Those soils warmed an average 0.64°C per decade, versus 1.15°C for the air. Snow cover helps explain regional differences; the study measured temperature trends rather than damage to particular buildings or roads.
