Two Spacecraft Begin Their Arrival at Mercury After an Eight-Year Journey
The joint European and Japanese BepiColombo mission is on final approach to Mercury after eight years in transit, and its two orbiters will soon separate to begin science operations. Mercury remains the least explored of the inner planets. Scientists hope the mission will explain how the planet formed and why it is so dense.
