Chemists Build Cleaner Reactions That Run on Oxygen and Emit Only Water
Oxygen drives respiration and combustion; harnessing it for industrial synthesis has been harder, because it tends to destroy the catalysts. Researchers report reactions that use oxygen as the oxidant and produce only water as waste, replacing reagents that generate stoichiometric quantities of toxic byproduct.
