Deep Learning Identifies Six Unusual Structures at Earth's Core-Mantle Boundary

via Phys.org·Sep 6

Scientists cannot drill 1,800 miles to the boundary between Earth's core and deep mantle, so they trained deep learning models on seismic waves recorded during earthquakes to map it. The analysis identified six unusual structures at the boundary. The findings may help explain how heat escapes the core.
