Dutch rice pilot tests a crop for sinking peatlands

Dutch farmers harvested rice in a small pilot intended to keep peat soils wet while producing a viable crop, AFP reports via Phys.org. Wageningen and Leiden researchers are comparing carbon-dioxide and methane emissions with drained grassland. Early results are described as promising, but the project has not yet established its wider climate or commercial benefits.
