A Woman Blind for Years Sees Again After the First Central Retina Transplant
Surgeons in Turin, Italy, performed what they describe as a world first: transplanting a complete human macula along with the cornea, sclera and connective tissue from one of a patient’s eyes to the other. The woman, blind for several years, regained sight immediately. Doctors say the technique could open a path for others with central vision loss.
