Researchers found that a metabolite produced by gut bacteria can weaken the blood-brain barrier and promote changes associated with Alzheimer's disease. The finding strengthens a suspected gut-brain link in cognitive decline. Follow-up work will test whether altering the microbiome changes outcomes.
