A New Statue of Herman Melville Rises in New Bedford

A 7.5-foot bronze statue of Herman Melville now stands in the heart of historic New Bedford, Massachusetts, the 19th-century whaling port that launched his seafaring years and inspired "Moby-Dick." The work honors the city’s role in the novel’s origins. Melville sailed from New Bedford in 1841.
