Icelandic Voters Reject Restarting European Union Membership Talks

Icelandic voters rejected a government proposal to reopen European Union accession negotiations, with the national broadcaster reporting 52.8 percent voting no. The referendum pitted arguments about geopolitical stability against a desire to keep national control of Iceland's fisheries. Previous accession talks were shelved more than a decade ago.
