A Judge Rules Meta Caused a ‘Public Nuisance’ and Must Fund Mental Health Treatment
A New Mexico judge found that Meta caused a public nuisance and ordered the company to fund a $567 million pool for youth mental health treatment — the first time a court has applied nuisance doctrine, built for polluted rivers and opioid distribution, to a social media product. Meta is expected to appeal, and every other platform is reading the opinion.
