Lansing studies bubble barrier to intercept river plastic

Lansing, Michigan, is working toward installing a Dutch bubble-barrier system in the Grand River, Smithsonian reports. Air bubbles lift plastic toward a collection point without a physical boom. The city, researchers and Meijer are evaluating funding, permits and ecological effects; its performance in this river is not yet established.
