Long spaceflights linked to higher hip-fracture rates

A study of US astronauts found higher hip-fracture rates after spaceflights lasting more than 90 days, Phys.org reports from Mayo Clinic Proceedings. Researchers did not find a higher rate of fractures overall. The small astronaut population limits precision; the findings support longer-term bone monitoring rather than establish that every long mission causes fractures.
