New shoots surround Sycamore Gap stump three years after felling

The National Trust says the stump of England's Sycamore Gap tree has produced a thick ring of shoots about two to three feet tall, three years after the tree was illegally felled. The conservation charity credits measures to reduce soil compaction and disturbance and says it will keep monitoring the growth; the shoots are an encouraging sign, but the stump's long-term form and recovery remain uncertain.
