Newly authenticated Canaletto drawing heads to auction

Smithsonian Magazine reports a previously unrecorded Canaletto drawing is due for auction at Mallams in Oxford later this month. Expert Charles Beddington authenticated the imagined architectural scene, which likely dates to the artist’s years in England around 1746–1755. Its precise date and purpose remain uncertain.
