Norway's King Harald V Dies at 89 and His Son Becomes King Haakon VIII
King Harald V of Norway died Friday at the age of 89, and his son immediately succeeded him as King Haakon VIII. Harald spent part of his childhood in exile in the United States during the Nazi occupation of Norway and later insisted on marrying a commoner he had met at school. Oslo's mayor called off her own wedding ceremony in response to the announcement.
