Nurse Impaled by a Trekking Pole at 11,800 Feet Hikes 10 Miles Down a Montana Peak for Help
David Cifaldi, a wound care nurse, was impaled by his own trekking pole in a freak fall at 11,800 feet on Montana's Granite Peak. Rather than wait for rescue, he walked 10 miles out with the injury before reaching help — an ordeal he described simply as 'a freak thing.'
