Randomized study finds noncompetes cut mobility and earnings
A study of more than 14,000 job offers at two firms found that noncompetes reduced worker mobility and earnings without measurable trade-secret protection beyond nondisclosure agreements, University of Maryland researchers report through Phys.org. Workers were freelance recruiters on short-term contracts, so the experiment does not establish identical effects in every industry.
