The Tiger Returns to Kazakhstan in a First-of-Its-Kind Rewilding Project

A female Amur tiger has been released into the Ile-Balkhash Nature Reserve, a decade after Kazakhstan established the reserve for exactly this purpose. No country has previously restored tigers to a landscape where they had gone entirely extinct — the Caspian tiger disappeared from the region in the 1940s.
