Trump Threatens New Tariffs on Canada Over Wildfire Smoke Drifting Into U.S.
President Trump threatened to raise tariffs on Canadian goods over the burden of wildfire smoke drifting into U.S. cities, saying the pollution costs 'must of necessity be added' to trade penalties. Smoke from more than 120 Canadian wildfires has smothered the Midwest, Northeast and mid-Atlantic, endangering air quality for some 100 million Americans. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney pushed back, saying both nations share responsibility for fighting the climate conditions worsening the fires.
