UK surgeons transplant tissue frozen before chemotherapy

NHS Lothian surgeons transplanted a 19-year-old’s testicular tissue, frozen before chemotherapy for a serious blood disorder, The Guardian reports. The August procedure offers a possible fertility-preservation option for younger patients unable to freeze sperm. Doctors do not yet know whether it will produce viable sperm; further monitoring is required.
