Webb observations sort young planetary collision debris by composition

via NASA·13h ago

NASA says Webb and Spitzer observations of 21 dusty young star systems reveal different mineral signatures that researchers link to planetary collisions. Silica-rich debris may reflect more energetic impacts between Mars-sized bodies; other disks suggest smaller collisions. These are interpretations of the spectra, and scientists say more observations are needed to test the patterns.
