Austin Appelbee receives bravery medal for family rescue

Austin Appelbee received the Royal Humane Society of Australasia’s Clarke Gold Medal Tuesday for swimming four kilometres to summon help for his family, ABC News reports. The award recognizes February’s rescue after the family drifted out to sea near Quindalup. His mother Joanne also received a Certificate of Merit; this is an award, rather than a new rescue.
