Black-hole jets leave an imprint on gas beyond galaxies

Astronomers combined optical and radio observations of hundreds of galaxies and found a stronger hydrogen-emission signal along black-hole jets, Phys.org reports. The result supports the idea that jets affect gas far beyond a galaxy’s visible edge. That gas supplies future stars, so heating or disturbing it may influence how galaxies grow.
