Cosmic-ray study explains directional bias in thunderstorm measurements

via Phys.org·yesterday

Researchers using India’s GRAPES-3 telescope found that Earth’s magnetic field helps explain why muon observations detected more thunderstorm signals from the east, Phys.org reports. Simulations link the bias to the balance of positive and negative particles. The result improves interpretation of storm-electricity measurements; it does not mean eastern storms are more common or stronger.
