Small Florida trial finds shades reduce coral bleaching

Researchers found that temporary underwater shades reduced paling in two brain-coral species during a Florida Keys heat-stress trial, Phys.org reports. No shaded or control coral died, so the study did not establish a survival benefit. The authors describe targeted, small-scale protection and say shading cannot cool the water or replace addressing warming.
