Deep-Sleep Brain Waves Appear to Protect Against Alzheimer's Damage

A Concordia University-led study reports that specific brain waves generated during deep sleep offer protection against a brain chemical tied to wakefulness and neurodegeneration. Poor sleep quality has long been linked to cognitive decline and Alzheimer's disease in older adults. The findings suggest the risk may be partly counteracted by the quality of slow-wave sleep.
