The Technology
A Diamond Clock Combines Two Signals to Cut Temperature-Driven Drift
Physicists built a clock that uses defects in diamond and combines two signals to cancel out temperature-driven drift. Natural diamonds contain impurities such as nitrogen that substitute for carbon in the lattice, and those defects can be read as quantum sensors. The design improves stability without elaborate cooling.
