Divers investigate submerged Silk Road settlement in Kyrgyzstan

Russian and Kyrgyz researchers are cataloging pottery, animal bones, cemeteries and a decorated building beneath Lake Issyk-Kul, AFP reports through Phys.org. The ruins may illuminate medieval Central Asian trade and daily life. The settlement’s precise dates, identity and cause of submergence remain uncertain; seismic activity is one proposed explanation.
