The FDA Approves the First Drug Targeting the Root Cause of Narcolepsy

A Japanese pharmaceutical company won FDA approval for the first drug that treats the underlying cause of a leading form of narcolepsy rather than its symptoms. Existing treatments manage sleepiness and cataplexy without addressing the deficit that produces them. Patients could begin receiving the drug this year.
