At Some Italian Trattorias, Diners Take the Plate Home

The Piatti del Buon Ricordo, or "Plates of Good Memories," tradition lets diners at participating Italian trattorias take home the hand-painted ceramic plate their meal was served on. A marketer devised it in 1964 to encourage Italians to travel across the country. Hundreds of restaurants still take part.
