Malaysia begins disputed repatriation of Myanmar asylum seekers

Malaysia has begun a repatriation program for around 5,000 asylum seekers from Myanmar, the BBC reports. Officials describe the returns as voluntary, but the UN refugee agency has been barred from screening those detained. Rights groups warn that returnees face persecution and forced conscription; the first ships were scheduled to leave Tuesday.
