NASA tests solid-state batteries for extreme lunar temperatures

via NASA·19h ago·2 sources

NASA reports that small SPEARS battery prototypes operated down to minus 80°C with reduced performance and survived exposure to minus 170°C without damage. The solid-electrolyte cells still need warming before use after extreme cold. This is early laboratory development for lunar equipment, with no flight demonstration or production timetable.
