New models question hypernova origins of unusual stars

via Phys.org·12h ago

UCL researchers say ordinary supernovae can explain unusual stellar chemistry when unevenly dispersed debris is modeled, Phys.org reports. Two papers challenge earlier claims that those stars required much more energetic hypernovae. This offers an alternative interpretation of selected stars; it does not prove hypernovae never occur.
