Researchers produced a new form of boron with an open atomic framework that combines electrical conductivity with resistance to brittle failure. The Nature Chemistry study describes removing sodium from a precursor to leave a pure boron structure. The findings expand possibilities for functional materials, without yet establishing a commercial application.
