Study finds unexplained shift in hospital pulse-oximeter readings

Johns Hopkins researchers found that pulse oximeters shifted from overestimating to underestimating blood oxygen at higher levels across five years of hospital data, STAT reports. Errors were worse for patients of color. Manufacturer Masimo says available data do not establish the cause; the study leaves the shift unexplained.
