Swiss voters reject stricter neutrality proposal

More than 70% of Swiss voters rejected an initiative that would have restricted sanctions without UN approval and closer ties with NATO, the BBC reports, citing official results. The federal government opposed the proposal. The vote leaves Switzerland’s existing flexible approach to neutrality in place; it does not amount to joining a military alliance.
