Taiwan proposes record defense budget to deter war

Taiwan’s government has allocated NT$1.1 trillion for 2027 defense spending, more than 3% of GDP, DW reports. In his National Day address, President Lai Ching-te said the increase aims to deter war as China maintains military pressure and its claim over the island.
