Catalyst maintains methane conversion at lower temperatures in lab tests
Science Tokyo researchers report a mixed-lanthanoid oxide catalyst that began producing higher-value hydrocarbons at 525°C and maintained performance over 240 hours at 600°C, Phys.org reports. Conventional methane-conversion catalysts commonly need higher temperatures. The laboratory results suggest a route to more stable chemistry; commercial scale, cost and overall energy benefits have not been established.
