English coin hoard offers evidence of medieval enclave in Rome

Archaeologists found 19 tenth-century English pennies and a halfpenny near the Vatican, Smithsonian Magazine reports. Cambridge researchers interpret them as material evidence of the Schola Saxonum community for English pilgrims and possible currency privileges.
