Pewaukee Lake canoe dates to roughly a thousand years ago

A white-oak canoe found during a May dive in Pewaukee Lake has a 70% radiocarbon probability of dating to 992–1049 C.E., Smithsonian Magazine and Wisconsin Public Radio report. The Wisconsin Historical Society is consulting Indigenous partners and will leave the vessel submerged. Its maker and exact use remain unknown.
