Fabric cover raises strawberry yield in tunnel field test

NC State researchers found that a porous textile cover increased harvestable strawberry yield 3.56-fold in a tunnel field test, the university reports. The cover kept out aphids in laboratory tests and warmed plants during fall-to-spring growth. On-farm trials across locations are still needed; broad water and pesticide savings were not established.
