Gut-microbe study suggests bacteria travelled with ancient human migrations

Hadza communities in Tanzania and Tsimane communities in Bolivia shared many gut bacterial species despite their distance, NPR reports on a Stanford-led study. Genetic dating suggests some strains travelled with human migrations thousands of years ago. The evolutionary-history interpretation is supported by comparisons; the health effects of microbes lost in industrialized populations remain uncertain.
