Jonathan the tortoise’s DNA offers clues for aging research

Researchers examined DNA and epigenetic markers from Jonathan, a giant tortoise estimated to be about 194, Smithsonian Magazine reports. They identified variants that could inform aging research. The single-animal study used an incomplete cheek-swab genome and four younger comparators; it does not establish why Jonathan lives so long or a human treatment.
