Myosin gene variations shape left- and right-coiling snail shells

via Phys.org·2h ago

University of Nottingham researchers report in Current Biology that natural differences in a myosin gene determine shell-coiling direction in Japanese Euhadra snails. Both forms develop normally. The finding helps explain animal left-right asymmetry, while how molecular handedness produces whole-body differences remains unresolved.
