Three-dimensional model shows how shadows alter stellar-cloud chemistry

University of Duisburg-Essen researchers report a three-dimensional model in Astronomy & Astrophysics showing how dense gas shields parts of the Orion Bar from ultraviolet light. The simulations change predicted hydrogen and carbon chemistry and emission, helping interpret telescope observations; the findings are model-based.
