Researchers use eggshells to make stronger magnesium composites

via NC State University·yesterday

NC State researchers used powdered eggshells in friction-stir extrusion to make stronger magnesium composites, the university reports. The proof-of-concept process converts calcium compounds from the waste during metal processing. The researchers see potential to reduce manufacturing steps and energy use; commercial costs and performance remain to be demonstrated.
