Spokane County Wildfires Destroy Hundreds of Structures and Force Nearly 65,000 to Evacuate
Wildfires that erupted across a parched eastern Washington landscape over the weekend have leveled entire neighborhoods around Spokane, with officials reporting roughly 700 structures destroyed and up to 65,000 people ordered out. Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown said nearly half of the city’s neighborhoods have either been evacuated or remain at risk while the fires burn uncontained, and returning residents have found little more than charred debris where homes once stood.
