Laser experiment accelerates protons to 132 MeV

via Phys.org·2d ago

University of Osaka researchers report accelerating protons to 132 MeV using a laser pulse and an ultrathin graphene target, in an account published by Phys.org. Machine learning helped analyze particle-detector images, while simulations suggest protons ride a moving electric field. This laboratory result does not demonstrate a ready medical or industrial accelerator.
