Photonic chip measures topology in simulated systems with energy loss

via Phys.org·yesterday

KTH researchers report a programmable photonic-chip method for measuring topological properties in simulated systems that lose energy, in an account published by Phys.org. Interference measurements recovered expected Zak phases and Chern numbers without reconstructing every state. The laboratory demonstration is a simulator result; useful signals can still become too weak under heavy losses.
